Over the weekend I followed the mass of bearded-plaid shirt enthusiasts, ladies with asymmetrical hair-dos, and amazingly stylish children down to the MOCA Geffen for the first Los Angeles Art Book Fair.
A literal museum transformed into a shop-able shrine for artfully curated self-published magazines, shockingly expensive vintage art books, and zines. During a break from the printed matter overload, I ran into Lauren Spencer King.
Dressed in an impossibly cute Rachel Comey dress (found on sale…major props), vintage watch, and tortqiues shell glasses – I was immediately hooked by her style. Lauren is an amazing artist, who painted the lovely watercolor banners for Claire Cottrell’s Art Book Stand.
Shortly after this moment a very distinguished woman with two of the biggest baby blue sapphire rings I’ve ever seen took a photo of us. She didn’t ask, she simply moved her fingers together sliently moving us together with power of her giant rings. She did ask a question though and that was “What is the time?” Lauren looked down at her vintage watch and said the time. The woman replied “Oh I must be off to the Grand…”
As if we knew what she meant…a wonderfully odd moment to end the day.
