The other  day I popped by the studio of Los Angeles fashion designer Jill Aiko Yee.

Downtown Los Angeles is home to vagrants, converted warehouses, and the studios of many designers. In a nondescript, Spanish style building is where the wonderful Jill has her studio.

I first met Jill back in December at Unique L.A. I was immediately struck by her openness, great design sense, and wonderfully decorated set-up.

On this day a month later, over miniature cupcakes, we talked about every day fashion. Not everyday, meaning something that is common or disposable, but clothing that holds meaning and is special.

Jill is unique in that she doesn’t really sell outside of her studio. She prides herself on building relationships with her clients. She wants to create an experience and she does.

Jill has a hand on her clothing every step of the way from design to creation. Rapidly our gab session turned into a fitting of sorts, with me taking clothing off windows and racks.

At her studio I found the answer to my high-waisted blue jeans rut – the Ikat Print Pant. I’m in love!
